On Monday afternoon President Felix Tshisekedi met with members of the Cap pour le Changement (CACH) alliance and allied senators. This is part of the ongoing nationwide consultations aimed at courting national unity.
The presidential consultations were launched last Monday by President Tshisekedi, with a view to leading to the creation of the sacred union of the Nation.
CACH is a coalition of parties headed that was headed by Tshisekedi that helped him strike a deal with Joseph Kabila's Common Front for Congo (FCC) and formed a unity government.
However, CACH and FCC have since collided and disagreed on many things and this pushed Kabila to meet President Tshisekedi in March and both agreed to dissolve the monitoring committee set up under the FCC-CACH agreement, opting to always consult with one another directly.
By that time, the two politicians agreed to reshuffle the government by 30 June. The number of ministers was expected to decrease from 67 to 50, but could even be reduced to 35.
These days the FCC and CACH seem to be operating largely independently as Tshisekedi wrestles for complete control of the government.
Meanwhile, under the consultations arrangement, President Tshisekedi also The delegation of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO), led by its president, Monsignor Marcel Utembi.
At the end of the discussions, Monsignor Marcel Utembi told the press that a memorandum containing proposals on the current crisis was handed to President Tshisekedi.
'We have entrusted to him all our reflections and our analyses on the situation, and to see to what extent he can use our contributions, our analyses to respond to his own concerns. Unfortunately, we cannot give the content of the memo that we have given to the President of the Republic on the issues for which we were consulted ', said Mgr Marcel Utembi.
