The waiting is over, Paul Rusesabagina’s file has been submitted to prosecution and one of his lawyers will begin assembling defense muscle.
The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) told Taarifa on Monday night that the file would be submitted to prosecution in Tuesday morning.
“Tomorrow [Tuesday] we will forward the case file to the prosecution, ” RIB Secretary General (Rtd) Col Jeannot Ruhunga confirmed.
Rusesabagina was arrested by RIB on August 31, as a result of an international warrant and international collaboration. He faces several counts including terrorism, arson, kidnapping and murder. Date for initial appearance in statutory time is yet to be announced.
Rusesabagina,66, is the supreme leader of a terrorist group National Liberation Front (FLN) and its political wing – Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (MRCD).
The FLN terrorists have previously boasted of attacks in areas surrounding Nyungwe National Park that stretches down south to the Border lining with Burundi. Dozens of people were killed, others kidnapped and several household items and money looted from communities around this park.
“He will have to answer for all these actions,” President Paul Kagame said, adding, Rusesabagina has blood on his hands,” his foreign backers can only help him to prop him as a movie hero but he will have to answer for killing Rwandans whether he likes or not.”
“Rwanda may not be doing well and they may really want to change things but the method they use by killing people is not acceptable,” Kagame explained.
Rusesabagina as paraded before local media last week on Monday. “He is currently detained at Remera Police Station,” RIB said.
Rwanda is currently holding and trying dozens of FLN members for war crimes and other violations committed on Rwandan territory including murder. Callixte Nsabimana one of the FLN leaders is undergoing trial in Rwanda.
The trial of Rusesabagina will be very crucial in collaborating with Callixte Nsabimana’s and some of his fighters currently undergoing trial in Rwanda.
