Rwanda government has cleared private hospitals to begin conducting tests for Covid-19 effective this Thursday, according to the Rwanda Biomedical Centre.
Details also show that private hospitals will test patients for Covid-19 using the Antigen Rapid Tests.
Rapid antigen tests are more accurate in determining if someone is currently infected, unlike previous rapid, antibody tests, which can show when someone has had Covid-19 but often give a negative result during the early stages of infection.
These diagnostic tests are particularly useful in hard to reach areas that are disproportionally impacted by the pandemic and which are without easy access to a laboratory.
So far the infections in Rwanda have reached a total of 6,954, with 6,057 recovered and a total of 57 deaths.
