President Kagame Wishes For Rapid Return To Peace In Ethiopia #rwanda #RwOT

As the ugly War in Ethiopia rages on the country's leadership has sent Demeke Mekonnen Hassen the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs into a lobby drive across her key allies.

On Wednesday, Demeke Mekonnen led his deligation to Rwanda's capital Kigali and met with President Paul Kagame who expressed the wish for rapid restoration of peace and stability in Africa's second most populous country.

During their discussion, Dr Vincent Biruta Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was present.

Meanwhile, on Monday Demeke Mekonnen was in Kampala, Uganda where he also met with President Yoweri Museveni over the situation in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian delegation met Museveni on a campaign trail at Gulu state lodge, Northern Uganda.

'Africa's problem is that we never discuss ideology, focusing so much on diplomacy. I totally disagree with politics that focus on ethnic federalism. We must emphasise the issue of oneness and common interests because it is the only way we can prosper,' Museveni said during their discussions.

Without revealing extra details of their discussion, Museveni noted that their discussion focused on the peace and security issues affecting Ethiopia currently. 'Being one of the oldest countries that was not colonised in Africa, Ethiopia is the pride of the continent.'

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed declared that a three-day deadline given to the Tigray region's leaders and Special Forces 'expired today [Tuesday].'

'The final and crucial' military operation will launch in the coming days against the government of the country's rebellious Tigray region,' the Ethiopian leader warned.

Now, 'we are marching to Mekele to capture those criminal elements,' Ethiopia's minister in charge of democratization, Zadig Abraha, said in an interview with Press. 'This will be a very brief operation.' Mekele, he said, will be the final stage.

Ethiopia's allies including Uganda and Kenya are calling for a peaceful resolution, but Abiy's government regards the Tigray regional government as illegal after it defiantly held a local election in September.
