Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye has officially opened the ruling party CNDD-FDD flashy office at Kayanza Province that borders with Rwanda.

The ruling party on Saturday said the new three storey glass and steel structure aims at enhancing with its presence in the province.

Kayanza province is an area prone to rebel attacks and hosts Kibira forest which stretches into Rwanda where it is called Nyungwe forest.

In the past the forest served as cover for the ruling CNDDFDD â€" The National Council for the Defence of Democracy, Forces for the Defence of Democracy party â€" during its rebellion.

Earlier this week,Rwanda Defence Force said they had arrested a group of 19 combatants who identified themselves as members of the 'Red Tabara' rebel movement that has its bases in neighbouring DRC. These rebels crossed into Rwanda on September 29, armed with guns, and were apprehended in Nyungwe Forest.

With this incident, Rwanda alerted the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM) and invited it to conduct an investigation.

Later on Monday the EJVM travelled to Nyaruguru District in Rwanda's southern province, where the rebels are being detained, to investigate the cross border incident.

In August, Rwanda and Burundi authorities met for the first time in five years, to discuss and find common ground on the longstanding tensions that have affected security, trade and movement along their border.

Meanwhile, in September unidentified attackers shot and killed six people in Kayanza province from the Kibira forest. 'They arrived at a small centre,  killed six people including two kids studying in primary school II and V,' Remy Cishahayo, army colonel and governor of Kayanza province, said on state-owned National Radio Television of Burundi.
