If all goes in the favour of National Unity Platform political Party, Robert Kyagulanyi has promised to reduce the Value Added Tax from the current 18% to 10%.

'The NUP Govt will zero rate VAT on all domestic consumers & reduce VAT on commercial consumers from 18 to 10%. This will make electricity more affordable for domestic & commercial use. This will give relief to SMEs, e.g. cottage industry, the largest non-agricultural employer,' he said on Thursday.

According to Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the increased demand and utilisation of electricity will in turn create many job opportunities, but also increase government revenue. If this revenue isn't lost through corruption, it can turn things around.

The aggressive presidential candidate says that 'everywhere I've gone, Ugandans complain of a very high cost of electricity. The tariffs are so high! Many districts experience regular, extended power outages. The national access rate still stands at 28% only! NUP is committed to improving efficiency in this critical sector.'

General elections will be held in Uganda on 14 January 2021 in Uganda to elect the President and the Parliament.

Kyagulanyi has managed to put up a spirited fight against the ruling National Resistance Movement party led by incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.

Meanwhile, Uganda asked Google to block at least 14 YouTube accounts linked to Kyagulanyi for 'sensationalist' broadcasts.

Ugandan authorities have blamed the broadcasts for inciting deadly protests last month sparked by the arrest of Wine for allegedly breaching Covid-related restrictions by holding mass rallies.

Museveni is currently in the Western Region precisely in Kasese and Bundibugyo districts known to host the Rwenzori Mountains.

'Our campaigns are still in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions. Today, I will be in Bundibugyo and thereafter conduct a radio/TV address,' he said on Thursday.

With an advantage as the incumbent President, Museveni on Wednesday commissioned the 50Km Kyenjojoâ€"Fort portal road, whose construction was fully funded by the government of Uganda.

According to him this road is a major link to the neighbouring countries of Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, it also serves as a transit route for tourists to the Rwenzori Mountains.
