The head coach of the national football team Amavubi, Vincent Mashami is optimistic that his players can overcome Cape Verde in the return leg slated for Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Kigali.

Mashami made the comments following Amavubi's goalless draw with the island nation on Thursday this week.

The national team returned on Friday night aboard a RwandAir chartered flight, and will immediately embark on preparations for the Tuesday encounter.

'Actually, the one point we got from the first leg is better than nothing because we were expecting a tough game basing on our knowledge about the Cape Verde team. However, we managed to react well. I thank the boys for the sacrifice and commitment on the field," he said.

Moreover, the coach hopes for a positive return-leg in Kigali

'Of course we expect another tough game, but I hope my boys will respond positively playing on home soil because we will have built worked on our weaknesses," explains the coach.

Meanwhile, in another Group F encounter, Cameroon thrashed Mozambique 4- 1 with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Vincent Aboubakar (twice) and Clinton N'Jie scoring for Cameroon while Kamo-Kamo pulled one back for the visitors.

African football giants Cameroon top the group with 7 points, three ahead of second-placed Mozambique. Cape Verde is third with 3 points, whereas Rwanda is bottom with one point.

Rwanda hosts Cape Verde on match-day 4 next week on Tuesday, November 17, and on the very day, Mozambique will also be hosting Cameroon.

Amavubi could jump to second position if they manage a victory against Cape Verde, and Cameroon beats Mozambique again.
