Local Government Minister, Prof. Anastase Shyaka is currently touring Burera district in Northern Province.

Accompanied by Governor Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney and other provincial officials, the Minister is taking stock of public infrastructure being constructed and being utilised especially in sectors along the border. The district borders with Uganda.

On September 14 when the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) scrutinised the Auditor General's report, it was discovered that Burera and other districts; Gicumbi, Karongi, Ngororero, and Rusizi had Idle health posts as a result of inadequate planning.

According to the Auditor-General's report for 2018-19, these districts spent over Rwf804 million to construct some 70 new health posts in the same financial year.

However, 54 of these health posts valued at over Rwf609 million, were laying idle. Health posts offer a reduced package of services, including curative outpatient care, child immunisations, growth monitoring for children under five years, antenatal care and family planning counselling, health education and a few laboratory tests.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has since tasked the ministries of local government and health to follow up and ensure that the health posts are put to use.
