The commander of a notorious militia group Rud-Urunana is in deep shock and loss after its commander Col Rugema Emmanuel was killed in action at Binza, Katwiguru in Rutshuru region of DRC.
According to sources, Col Rugema was killed on Wednesday as a result of internal wrangles within the management of this militia. The plot to eliminate him was hatched by his colleagues including; Colonel Faida and Captain Gavana.
Rud-Urunana members claim that Col Rugema was being mistrusted by his colleagues. He was directly working for the interests of the RNC faction of dissident Kayumba Nyamwasa. Other reports indicate that Rugema was in Uganda about a month ago where he attended a meeting in the Ugandan capital Kampala between Rwanda National Congress and Rud-Urunana.
RUD-Urunana is believed to be the armed wing of FDU-Inkingi, an unrecognised political party formed by Victoire Ingabire.
This militia is blamed for launching an attack inside Rwanda territory in October 2019 at Kinigi village leading to the death of 14 innocent civilians. The commander of RUD-Urunana Col' Cyprien Leo Mpiranya was later killed in August 29, 2020.
Mpiranya, had taken control of this militia after his predecessor 'Gen' Juvenal Musabyimana, alias Jean-Michel Africa, was neutralized during a surgical operation by the Congolese army FARDC in November 2019 at Makoka in Rutshuru territory.
Sources privy with internal dynamics of Rud-Runana said that the death of Mpiranya could have been instigated by his own men after disagreements with his deputy, Col. Emmanuel Rugema alias 'The Witchdoctor of the Jungle'. The report alleges that after the death of Gen Musabyimana, the two had since failed to agree on the terrorist militia's future and we're always caught up in supremacy battles which could have led to Kagoma's death.
Since the launch of operations against all foreign militia and pacifying Eastern DRC, the FDLR made up of combatants responsible for the 1994 genocide against the Tusti in Rwanda, has suffered several losses in its rank in its stronghold, in the territory of Rutshuru. The anti-Rwanda terror groups based in DRC include; FDLR-FOCA, RUD-Urunana, and FLN of CNRD-Ubwiyunge.
